Recall – the devil of the Industry 4.0

By Meir Ansher, VP of Sales, Cybord

Recall events can be detrimental for any OEM. Not only do they result in significant financial losses, but they also damage the brand reputation and customer trust. It is crucial for OEMs to take proactive measures to minimize recall events, and two key steps can greatly contribute to achieving this goal.

recall devil

The first key is to improve the quality of 100% of electronic components. Ensuring that every component meets high-quality standards can significantly reduce the likelihood of failures or defects that may trigger a recall. This can be achieved through rigorous quality control measures, such as thorough inspections, testing, and certifications. Collaborating closely with suppliers and implementing robust quality assurance protocols can help identify and rectify any potential issues before they escalate into a recall situation.

The second key is to establish high resolution traceability. This system will play a pivotal role in minimizing the sizing of recall events. Having a clear and comprehensive record of the entire material used through the production process, would highlight root cause of any potential defects. Such traceability capability will facilitate targeted recalls and prevent further distribution of potentially defective products.

By focusing on these two aspects, OEMs can significantly reduce the occurrence or magnitude of recall events. Improved quality control measures will ensure that only reliable components are used in production, minimizing the chances of defects. A strong traceability system will enable quick identification and resolution of any issues, reducing the scope and impact of potential recalls. Ultimately, these efforts will enhance customer satisfaction, protect brand reputation, and mainly minimize OEM’s exposure.
