A global manufacturer of datacenter communication systems supplying critical infrastructure and secured communication solutions to a US government agency. Due to the sensitive nature of their deployments, they are required to comply with strict procurement and product integrity standards.
As part of security and compliance audits, the company needed to prove that every component used on every board originated from authorized vendors only — and to verify and document the country of origin for each component.
While they received BOM and unverified part traceability lists from their contract manufacturer, they lacked confidence in the accuracy of that documentation. What they needed was undeniable, board-level proof of what was actually being assembled — not just what was supposed to be.
Their existing inspection process could not provide the level of granularity, traceability, or proof required for this level of assurance. Manual sampling and supplier documentation were no longer sufficient for their government customers.
The company implemented Cybord ShieldScan, a visual-AI PCBA inspection solution that captures and analyzes high-resolution images of every component on every PCB during production. ShieldScan was seamlessly integrated into the AOI machine already in use on the SMT line, enabling inline, real-time inspection without disrupting throughput.
